As (will) noted, the San Francisco waterfront is an historic area. I've got several monuments to show you, including this historical marker that shows the location of the Pony Express mail stop in San Francisco.

The Pony Express lasted for only a short time, but it's a treasured memory.

Before Email there was the Pony Express...imagine, and the riders had no 'Cell Phones'...I think maybe people were just a little more self-reliant then. Do you think that's fair to say? Beautiful photo of this commemoration!!
