Visiting the Kaiser Center roof garden in Oakland, California
Wednesday, April 4, 2012
This garden was built on the roof of a five-story parking structure in downtown Oakland.
A closer look at the fountain in the pond.

I like how the blossoms echo the building.

The adjoining Kaiser Center building is 28 stories tall, and Henry J. Kaiser --- the industrialist who established the Kaiser shipyards and other companies --- lived in a penthouse on the top floor. Apparently, he wanted to have a garden built on the roof of the parking structure so that he would have a nicer view, and there's a garden side café there as well.
I think that was a nice idea, for him and for us.
