On the Waterfront, San Francisco, California
Wednesday, June 20, 2012
Forbes Island at Pier 39: this is one of my favorite places on the San Francisco waterfront. Forbes Island was built in Sausalito in 1975 by Forbes Thor Kiddoo as a private floating home. It is now open to the public for dinner and special events.
When you arrive at your reserved time, Mr. Kiddoo will pick you up in his water taxi and take you out to the Island. After a short tour, he'll escort you to the dining room and bar. The food and drinks are delicious, and there's no dress code. Mr. Kiddoo is quite a character, with a casual and friendly demeanor.
After dinner, you're welcome to stay as long as you like, and visit the beach(!) and climb the stairs in the lighthouse. The views are wonderful.
That's Alcatraz behind Forbes Island. When you get to Forbes Island, you can practically throw a rock at The Rock!
