Blooming now: many manzanitas!
This botanical garden was started by a man who appreciated and collected manzanita plants from all over California. He was instrumental in saving specimens of a number of endangered varieties, including one that grew only in the City of San Francisco.
So far this year, we've had a dry and mild winter and I started seeing manzanitas in bloom in December. I love the tiny urn-shaped manzanita flowers, which come in shades of creamy white and pink.
In the previous picture in this series, I showed a pink variety. Here's a lovely creamy white one that has just a little blush of pink. | |
