visiting Preservation Park in Oakland, California
Friday, July 4, 2008

A few years ago, the city decided to create a park to preserve some of the beautiful homes in downtown Oakland. Some of these houses were here already, and others were moved from nearby neighborhoods.

Each of the homes has a sign in front with details of the architectural style of the home and when it was built. The houses range in age from the 1880s Victorians -- like this beauty -- to a 1911 Craftman.

The houses have been rented out to non-profit organizations, school groups, and historical societies. I think it would be fun to work in one of them!

I've seen many similar style of these home many places throughout California. San Diego has a lot I'm sure you know, and I'd seen quite a few in Santa Cruz also (and Laguna too)...lovely style! :)

Yes, it is. I believe that it's a California fan palm (Washingtonia filifera).
