visiting the Oakland Museum of California

We'll head back indoors for a short visit to the California History gallery. This is just a small sample of the wide variety of exhibits that are available here.
I like this image of Rose the Riveter. You may be familiar with the famous "We can do it" poster, and there's at least one copy posted here on Fotothing, but she shows up in a wide variety of cultural representations.
On October 14, 2000, the Rosie the Riveter/World War II Home Front National Historical Park was opened in Richmond, California, site of four Kaiser shipyards. This is of personal interest to me, because the town of Richmond, California, is where I lived for the first five years of my life and it's where I started school. The Rosie the Riveter park is a source of pride for many people from the San Francisco Bay Area.
