Window display at Steinway and Sons Pianos
West 57th Street in New York City
Saturday, October 22, 2011

I was delighted to run across the Steinway showroom, and this happened purely by accident! I have years of experience as a pianist, and love the sound of a fine instrument.

I was also delighted to see this window display showing some of the bits and pieces that make up a fine piano. If the DVD is available in your country, I recommend renting the documentary "Note by Note: The Making of Steinway L1037."

You'll meet some of the technicians who build pianos and visit the Vault, where concert instruments are stored until they are requested. There are interviews and performances by a number of jazz and classical musicians, including Hank Jones, Marcus Roberts, and Pierre-Laurent Aimard.
