a walk around the Lafayette Reservoir -- #8 of 8
Contra Costa County, California
Sunday, June 15, 2008

As we were leaving the park, we spotted this group of wild turkeys. There are several adults and chicks in the group, maybe a dozen birds in all. it was a treat to see them -- I can't remember ever seeing wild turkey chicks before!

One of these days, I'll have a real zoom lens ....

Beautiful lighting in this! I love wild turkeys. They are beautiful birds that fly and act intelligent, unlike the domesticated variety.

Turkey's are a difficult to get a shot of, the wild ones are real smart and weary, I see them on our walks but never close enough to get their picture.

Yes -- that's as close as I could get. I'd take one step closer, and the whole group would move ...

A wild turkey instead of a tofu turkey! I don't think the tofu ones can run as fast, you might have a better chance at stalking a group of them fleur! :))

Invasive species, imported by our white ancestors for hunting... Their numbers are increasing in the bay area.

That's what I've heard, and I thought that it was due to the drought. That's been happening with deer, too.
