This is a Micronesian Kingfisher. It was a native of Guam and the northern Mariana Islands in the North Pacific Ocean.

This species currently is extinct in the wild. The San Diego Zoo is one of several zoos in the United States that is participating in a captive breeding program, with the goal of creating a large enough population for release back into the wild.
