Grand Hyatt Hotel on Union Square
345 Stockton Street, San Francisco, California
Ruth Asawa is a California artist who lives in San Francisco, and I've started visiting her public artworks in Oakland and San Francisco. I plan to show several of them during the upcoming spring, summer, and autumn, as I find the time to visit them.
Asawa is also the mother of six children, and she enjoys being involved with children's art projects. The model for this fountain was created by 100 children using baker's clay. When the model was finished, the fountain was cast in bronze.
The figures in this fountain depict the history of San Francisco, including stories from the local Indian tribes, the Gold Rush days, and the Victorian era. | |
