a walking tour of Broadway
Oakland, California

From Broadway, you can catch glimpses of Oakland's Chinatown, although there's more to see on streets that parallel Broadway. A good place to start a tour of Chinatown is Broadway and 8th Street, and head toward Webster Street.

Oakland's Chinatown is one of the oldest in North America, with some Chinese-American families settling in the area in the 1850s. The population increased substantially after the 1906 earthquake since there was less quake-related damage in the East Bay area.
