Visiting the Serpentine Prairie
Alameda County, California
Monday, May 7, 2012

This is a nice park for viewing wildflowers in the spring, including California poppies, goldfield flowers, and Clarkia.

The park gets its name from the serpentine formations and soil. What's special about this particular area is that the serpentine is a real "blue jean denim blue."

I promise that I have not touched up the color in this photo. These stones are really this amazing blue!

We didn't get much rain during the autumn and winter this year, so the soil is looking more dry and stony than is usual for early May.
