Oh, she has one! She likes freehand better! I think it is also weight training, that is not a light camera!!

Most of her owrk is with birds and bugs, they don't sit still unless you set up in a blind like you often do. We don't do that in the park.

Yes it is! It's an Olympus E3, their pro level model with an F2.9 40-200 zoom. It is a sweet camera to use! A bit heavy but worth it!

I do okay without the tripod. It weighs more than the camera and then I have to lug that around, too. :)
I do use the tripod when I have to.

what I see here is why I will not want to have a srl.....it is so heavy to carry and to use....:(

It is always a trade off of some kind. Weight vs freedom of movement andquick reaction. Different times, different stuff..... I would say you do more than ok :-))

Yes she is! I think the ideal would be to have both, often you can do things with the slr not possible with fixed camera. Other times the lightness and portability would be nice! Everybody likes different things and that creates choices!! :-))

AH, then you would be hooked! Some of the SLRs are not so heavy...
