He noticed the medal of the Virgin of Guadelupe, the famous Mexican icon, hanging on the chain around my neck. Del Toro was one of the most fan-friendly directors at the Festival. He stayed near the theatre doors after his movie screened and talked with, signed autographs for, and posed for photos with his fans. He drew a caricature of himself with each autograph he signed. He's quite fannish; he especially likes talking about his young years of watching horror movies and reading Mad Magazine and Famous Monsters of Filmland. Various Hellboy and horror fans gave me their cameras and asked me to take their photos of them with del Toro. | |
