Mike and I began a week of transport extravaganza starting off in Chesterfield.

The first day, however, we visited Chatsworth House.

Signed photograph and handwritten letter to Andrew, the 11th Duke of Devonshire and Deborah ("Debo"), now the Dowager Duchess, dated 26th January (1961) from US President John F Kennedy who had been sworn into office on January 20th.

The families were related as the Duke's elder brother had married JFK's sister Katherine in 1944 only to be killed four months later in action in Belgium.

From the wording it would appear that the Devonshires had attended the inauguration.

Magnificent tribute to this man. This framed portrait kept in the "White Room" I imagine.

No, it was in the general exhibition area.

The Devonshires were also related by marriage to Harold MacMillan who was the British Prime Minister at the time that JFK was President.
