Peter Law was the man who broke the Labour mould. The Labour Party imposed an all female shortlist at the last general election but one AGAINST the wishes of the local party who wanted to make their own choice. The result was that Peter stood against the imposed candidate and won and although he was to die from cancer, his legacy lives on. He was instrumental in getting the Ebbw Vale line reopened to passenger traffic.
This constituency is still independent and Labour have now lost control even of the local council and his widow represents us in the Welsh Assembly. Hopefully it's a lesson for national political machines - to never impose political correctness or policies against the wishes of the grass roots.
They elevated the defeated official candidate to the House of Lords instead - that ruined Labour for me and it looks like it is now ruined as an electoral choice for many others. | |
