I went to the school's botanical gardens once two summers ago for my LS1 class and noticed these trees at the time. I think that this section is actually one of the more interesting in the gardens, for the very reason that people carved on them. Maybe this makes it a catch-22 type situation for me, since I don't like the fact that people have carved their names into these bamboo plants in the botanical garden (actually I don't think they're bamboo plants, but they look like them and I don't recall what they really are) - yet I find them interesting. I just think that it's pretty disrespectful to come to a Botanical Garden and carve your name into some trees that are relatively rare in this country - and especially LA. If you want to do that in a park on an old oak tree or a park bench, it doesn't really phase me. Either way, it provided for what I thought was a good photograph and that's what it's really all about, isn't it? ;) | |
