Pooler -Mr. T.C. "Clyde" Strickland, Sr., 85, died on Friday, December 29, 2006 at his home. Mr. Strickland was born in Evans County to the late D. Marvin and Lennie Hodges Strickland. He moved into Savannah in 1937 and to Pooler in 1946 where he has since lived. He began his career with Hendrix Mattress Company and then Nugent Bakery. He then became a railroad engineer with the Seaboard Airline Railroad which later became the Seaboard Coastline and is now CSX. He and his late wife, Birdie Heidt Strickland were founders of Strickland Oil Company in 1954. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he served as treasurer for many years and held several other positions in the church. He was a volunteer at Candler Hospital for a number of years where he received an award for 5000 hours of service. He was a member of Richard T. Turner Masonic Lodge #116 F & AM, a member of the Scottish Rite Consistory Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite- Valley of Savannah and he served in the provost guard of the Alee Shrine. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Frances & Robert Bryan of Pooler; two sons and daughters-in-law, Marvin & Gail Strickland of Pooler and Tommy & Terri Strickland of Springfield; brother, W. Virgil Strickland of Claxton; sister, Sarah S. Crane of Ellabell; eight grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren; a number of sisters-in law and brothers -in-law and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral: 3 p.m. on Sunday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Pooler. Mr. Strickland will lie in state from 2-3 p.m. at the Church. Burial will follow at Effingham Memorial Gardens in Springfield.
