Halifax, PA -James R. Steinhauer, 58, passed away Friday, January 19, 2007 after a brief but courageous fight against cancer. He was born on May 27, 1948 in Kingston, PA to the late Wm. Paul and Louise Steinhauer. Jim graduated from Dallas High School class of 1966 and received his BS/MS degree in Entomology/Applied Ecology from the University of Delaware 71/74. Contracted by the PA Department of Agriculture in 1974 to do research, he was hired the following year to head the apiary inspection program for the state. Jim's career as chief apiary inspector spanned 28 years. He worked closely with the Capital Area Beekeepers Association, and especially enjoyed his time in the field with the state's beekeepers. Jim retired from the Dept.; Of Agriculture in 2004 having finished his career working with Integrated Pest Management. Jim was a member of Messiah Lutherans Church and played in the dart ball league, a life member of the National Rifle Association, The National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association, Capital Area Beekeepers Association, and Halifax Archery Club. In addition to keeping bees, Jim's passions included hunting, fly-fishing, exploring forest and fields, sawing lumber with his antiquated Wood Miser portable saw, building muzzle loading rifles and stick bows, and working with his sons on their building projects. His legacy will live on with the rifles he crafted for friends and family, the log home he built for his family from the oak trees on their mountain property, and the joy he took in introducing young and old alike to the mysteries and marvels of being with Nature. Surviving are his wife of 36 years, Rosellen K. Steinhauer; sons, David P. Steinhauer and wife Alicia and Chad C.Steinhauer and wife Heidy, both of Halifax; two granddaughters Alyza and Sadie; two brothers Ross R, Steinhauer and wife Anne Marie of Dallas, PA and William R.
