February 15-- Fires of suspicious origins destroyed two newly built homes and damaged another early Thursday morning in Toombs County. Secretary Donna Lee of the Toombs County Fire Association says volunteer firemen were called to the upscale Pinewood sub-division south of Normantown. "All three homes were under construction and the arson investigator was on the scene," Lee said.
Toombs County Sheriff Junior Kight says a 6,000 square foot home was destroyed, another suffered serious damage, and a third was only slightly damaged. He estimates damage at more than $1 million.
According to the sheriff, nearby residents heard an explosion and looked out to see the first house engulfed in flames. He says investigators have found evidence of "pour marks" which leads them to suspect arson.
Each house was being built by a different builder whom the sheriff identified as Marcie Garrett, Jeff Stanley and Allen Dismuke. | |
