Bobbitt's Fotothing PhotoBlog InfoThing: Chief Bobbitt entered the Navy in August of 1942 and was stationed for two years at the Fort Sumter Hotel, Charleston, S.C., headquaters of the sixth Naval District. He received twelve weeks training at Portsmouth, Virginia, before being sent to San Francisco, Calif. to await the Commissioning of the Oneida (APA-221). The Commissioning took place on Dec. 5, 1944 and since that time the ship and crew have seen duty in the South Pacific.
Period of Acitve Duty: From August 5, 1942 to November 8, 1945. Discharge Number: 636 81 76. Discharge Certificate Number: 651000.
