Born in Chicago, Illinois, he was a son of the late Charles Augustus Granat and Mildred Goodridge Granat. Mr. Granat was a member of the First Christian Fellowship Church in Savannah, where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, and played the piano and many other instruments. He moved to Savannah in 1931 and was formerly with Riverside Baptist Church. Mr. Granat was a United States Navy veteran having served on the USS Wilkes in the invasion of North Africa and at the battle at Casablanca in 1942. Mr. Granat was a World War II veteran and served on the SS David L. Yulee. He served in the United States Army, the United States Air Force, and the Georgia Air National Guard. One of his many ministries was going to nursing homes and sharing the word of God. He loved to draw pictures of people and to bowl. Surviving are nieces and nephews including David R. Baker and his wife, Martha, of Savannah, Georgia; great-nieces and great-nephews including Amy Hubbard and Kim Baker; great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, and one great-great-great-nephew. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Wednesday evening at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Avenue. Funeral service, with full military honors, will be held at 11 o'clock Thursday morning at the graveside, Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, conducted by The Reverend Edward H. Collins.
