Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia, U.S.A. - Lloyd L. Carver (Major, USAF Ret.), 85, passed away Wednesday, February 07, 2007 in Savannah. Mr. Carver was the son of the late Elmer Carver and Velma States-Carver of Logan, KS. Mr. Carver was born near Logan, Kansas on November 16, 1921 and grew to manhood there, attending the rural schools in that area and graduating from the Logan High School. In June of 1942 he enlisted in the Air Force and entered Officer Cadet Training at Lackland AFB, TX. After further training at Tulsa, Oklahoma, Independence, Kansas and Victoria, Texas, he graduated as a commissioned 2nd Lieutenant and was sent to Midland, Texas as pilot in the Air Training Command. While in Texas he was married to Esther Hofaker who was also from Logan, Kansas, a marriage that was blessed for 62 years. Two children, a son, Ron and a daughter, Kay blessed this union. At the end of World War II, he decided on a career in the Air Force which was spent in the Air Training Command, flying B-25's and T-29's and later in the Strategic Air Command flying the KC-97 Tanker Airplane which was used to refuel the B-47 aircraft in flight while stationed at Hunter AFB, GA and Plattsburg AFB, NY. In 1965 he retired as a Major from the Air Force and returned to Savannah where he flew for Ross Aviation at Ft. Stewart, GA as a Flight Instructor training Army Officers to become pilots in reconnaissance aircraft which they later flew on missions in Vietnam. When Ross Aviation moved to Oklahoma, he elected to remain in Savannah and became a Licensed Real Estate Agent selling residential and commercial property in Southeast GA. He continued in this profession until full retirement. He and his family became members of White Bluff United Methodist Church in 1966 after returning to Savannah. His fraternal organizations include service with Clinton Lodge No. 54 F.&A.M.'s, The Scottish Rite Consistory-Valley of Savannah and the Alee Shrine of Savannah, GA. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and enjoyed caring for his family and home. His friendly and kind hearted personality endeared him to those who knew him. During his exemplary military career he received numerous honors, awards and metals but none meant more to him than his awards for accumulating nearly 10,000 actual hours of accident free flying time and the many laudatory comments from his crews and passengers affirming the countless times he saved their lives and the aircraft's he flew as their Aircraft Commander. Surviving are his wife, Esther M. Carver of Savannah; son, Ron and wife Martha of Duluth, GA; daughter, Kay Miller and husband Frank of Bonaire, GA; sisters, Arlene Hix and husband Francis of Norcatur, KS and Rosalee Earl and husband Lee of Winchester, KS; seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and many other relatives.
