On Saturday, December 31st., Wynette Phillips Dodson and Rev. Richard F. Cook were united in marriage at the home of the groom on Lake Sinclair in Milledgeville by Dr, Paul McCommon in the presence of thier children and grandchildren. The double ring ceremony took place outside at 11 o'clock in the morning and was followed by a wedding brunch at high noon for members of the families.
For her wedding, the bride wore a grey silk brocade ankle length dress, hand embroidered with silver thread which the groom brought as a gift from Mourovia, Liberia. She wore a specially designed heart-shoped locket also a gift of the groom. Her corsage was a purple orchid.
Rev. Cook chose his only son, Richard Thomas Cook of El Toro, Calif., as his best man and the bride's daughters, Mrs. Jack Sasser, Atlanta, Mrs. Delton McDonald, Vidalia and Mrs. Wesley Arnold, Hottom, Texas stood with her.
Music for the ceremony included a piano medley by the groom, "Take My Life" with Ricky Cook, trumpet and Linda Cook at the piano; piano selections "Trust and Obey" and "Oh Jesus I Have Promised" by Miss. Linda Cook of Huntsville, Ala.; Mrs. Nat Smith of Milledgeville sang "Heirlooms" and "The Lord's Prayer" and Wesley Arnold of Holstom, Texas sang his original compostion, "Our Love" with guitar.
In the afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Nat Smith, Col. and Mrs. George Norris and Rev. and Mrs. Dewey Norton entertained with a reception at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Nat Smith in Milledgeville. After a trip to the Cloister at Sea Island the couple are making their home in Hogansville. Did You Know.........? CHATTER - Frances Hanna Ledford. .........she donned a wedding dress from Africa, made of silk brocade and hand embroidered with silver thread......her wedding band and heart shaped locket were especially designed for her by artisans in Monrovia......the wedding ceremony took place during a lull in the rain on Lake Sinclair, on Saturday morning; December 31st......a longtime friend of the groom and fellow volunteer Missionary the Rev. Mr. Paul McCommon officiated and the four children of the bridegroom and the five children of the bride along with the couple's eleven grandchildren, joined hands to complete the family circle......the comely bride was Wynette Bobbitt Dodson and the groom was the Rev. Mr. Richard Cook, a retired Baptist Minister of Music who has just returned to the states after a four month sojourn as a Mission Volunteer in Liberia West Africa, teaching piano and organ in a Liberian Baptist Seminary in Monrovia......the bride taught speech in the Vidalia Schools during 1939 and the 40's and raised her family here......the grooms' son Ricky Cook was the best man and Wynette's daughter, Marla (Mrs. James Delton) McDonald of Vidalia; was her maid of honor......her other children are Gail (Mrs. Jack, Jr.) Sasser of Atlanta; Vicky (Mrs. Wesley) Arnold of Halton City of Texas; Calvin Bobbitt of Vidalia and Phillip Bobbitt of Kennesaw, Ga......the pair journeyed to The Cloister and were the 31,789th bridal couple to register at the popular Sea Island resort, since 1940......their ocean front suite and the weater added a rainbow over the sky as a omen of the future.........
