Ex- London, Midland & Scottish Railways "Princess Coronation" class pacific 46233 'Duchessof Sutherland" passes Apsley, Herts on its' way back out of London, October 20th 2012.

These locomotives were the pinnacle of steam haulage on this main line with a power classification of 8P.

46233 is one of two of this type preserved today.

I love this! It's evocative of my (long ago) childhood. The rain is captured in full throttle and the composition is spot on: "seeing space" for the loco, and the train lines disappearing into the smoky distance. The B&W adds to the nostalgia. Well done.
