What is it? Steak and Kidney? Looks lovely, whatever it is.

Looks very tasty too but I eat it only during Carnival Time in Basel !!

The festivities begin on Monday morning in the city at 4.00 am and at 6.00 am everbody is running to the restaurants to eat a cup of gruel and then a piece of those pies. Most of time you have to wait more or less a long moment before having a seat!! Not pleasant when temperatures are very cold.....but it belongs to the tradition !! ;+)

Sure looks good to me. What is the approximate diameter of this one? Is this a quick bread dough or one with yeast?
Jan 27 2014 10:22 GMT bandsix
I'm not sure about that, Margaret, but I enjoy baking, and what's more, eating it!!
Jan 27 2014 10:25 GMT bandsix
It's about 8 inches Larry...and it's not a dough exactly, it's puff pastry, made with flour and butter....quite a complicated pastry to make, takes quite a while....or you can cheat and buy it ready made:))

Jan 30 2014 01:19 GMT larrybenedict
I would cheat! Is it kind of like philo (sp?) (Filo) dough?
Jan 30 2014 08:43 GMT bandsix
No, Larry ...it's thicker than filo....but it rises to give lots of airy layers that are flaky....and I cheat sometimes, as it takes about a couple of hours to make properly...lots of rolling and turning and refrigerating in between!
