Was trying to do some sewing in my 'studio' upstairs when I looked out and saw this dog fox strolling through....by the time I got downstairs for the camera he was just making his exit...taken through the window so the quality is not great :))

A pretty good shot through the window! I was surprised to read that "potterjo" had never seen a live one as much as she wanders through the woods in her part of the world. There must be a lot of these where you live??? England is famous (in movies) for fox hunting (on horseback with dogs). Something has been getting my duck eggs this past week...I suspect a fox. I've never heard them referred to as 'dog-foxes' before.
Jan 21 2013 17:51 GMT bandsix
Thanks Larry....I, too, was surprised to see Jo's comment that she hasn't yet seen a live one....I think there are quite a lot of foxes around here...and I hate fox hunting with hounds, which was supposed to have been banned, but still happens....the hunt used to pass along the bridle path at the back of my house, and whilst it was lovely to see the horses and the riders in livery, I didn't like what they were doing . I hope whatever is stealing your duck eggs doesn't start stealing your ducks....:) I only referred to is as a dog fox because I knew it was the male, having seen him cock his leg on several bushes to mark his territory :)))

An impressive photo.. A great capture from the window on this winter day.Nature is marvelous but oft times it is 'survival of the fittist. Once I saw a blue jay capture a tree frog and I got very upset. Then a few days later I saw a hawk capture a blue jay and fly off to the woods screeching.. But I do hope your pheasant returns.
I too would not like fox hunting. Each animal has a purpose I guess.
You do great photography thanks for sharing and thank you for your very nice comment.
Great composition....

you should really live in the nature Barbara, just seeing fox when looking out from the window! you are lucky!

Wonderful to see a fox Barbara . I suppose every animal has their place in the food chain . It must be hard to find food in the winter ?
Jan 22 2013 10:44 GMT bandsix
Thank you Barb......as you say, it is upsetting to see animals (and birds) capturing other living things..as the saying goes 'Nature is red in tooth and claw' and I, too, can't bear to watch it...but it is the way of living things, and we have to accept that.
I hope my pheasant returns one of these days....thank you:))

Thanks Bea.....it is always a thrill to see these wild creatures coming to the garden....one of the benefits of the back of the garden being a bit of a jungle!! Who knows? Maybe a tiger next time......:))
Jan 22 2013 10:47 GMT bandsix
Yes, it was, Margaret, thank you....I think they must all be finding it hard, especially now there is more snow on the ground.....
