I have more detailed pictures of the above statue showing you better the intensity and the purity of the feelings between these two lovers. People got inspired by this statue and on its foot they wrote in many languages: L O V E, in german, in english, in greek, in a scandinavian language and even in hebrew, once in hebrew characters and once as the word 'ahava'.
The emotions the statue evoke remind me in a way of Rembrandt's painting of The Jewish Bride.
