I made a very long walk in an area yesterday, April 4, 2007, where tourists hardly ever go: it is near the river IJ, and called the Western Islands. During centuries in this area a major part of the merchandise was stored. The goods were brought home to Amsterdam from all over the world by dutch ships. The former storage houses have been renovated and serve as apartments now. Tomorrow I shall upload some of the pictures I made in this special area where the history of Holland as a sea faring nation is still tangible even today
