The oldest Haarlemmer Hofje
Sculpture of 14th century 'original' inhabitants of the Hofje by Marijn Koenen-Gorter to celebrate the 600 years existence of this Hofje.
In the larger and older cities of the Netherlands you will find a special way of housing for elderly people, the so called 'hofjes', founded by wealthy (mainly childless) people who wanted their family name to live on through this work of charity. The small individual houses are mainly situated around a courtyard, = 'hofje'.

Merci beaucoup cher Patrick. I am a lawyer, but my field of interest is a lot larger than that, fortunately. My youngest son studied history, and I always checked his work for him upon his request, and learned along the way some extra things. Although history was one of my favourite subjects in school already!

Dear Patrick: you will then not only enjoy Fotothing but also a lot of the other sites you can find on the internet and improve and deepen you knowledge further still!!! Sometimes I wish I could be young again in this period of time, I have always loved to learn and with the internet there are practically no limits any more... :)
