Still 13 kilometers to go to Marken!!!

On wednesday the 29th of August 2007 my dear friend Lenie and I made another bike trip to the rural part of Northern Holland and we passed the Twiske mill again. Our goal was to cycle towards the former island of Marken, since 1959 connected with the mainland by a dike. Our trip took us from IJmuiden/Velserbroek through the Zaan region, Oostzaan, Landsmeer, Broek in Waterland to Marken. From Marken we took a boat to Volendam, and then we cycled home via Edam (a very lovely small city), Jisp, the Zaan region, Beverwijk, IJmuiden/Velserbroek. Lenie who cycled to meet me at my house made a tour of 107 kilometers and I made a tour of exactly 99 kilometers. This is our record until now!!! :)

The most I have ever cycled was about 40 km but we have a lot more hills here.

It cannot be compared dear Tavascarow: to cycle in such a flat country as Holland is and to cycle in surroundings that are hilly. The latter ones take so much more energy and they really limit the distances you can cycle on a single day!
