Potato fields in former Peat Colony
Everywhere in this neighbourhood you will find roads and canals straight as can be. They came into existence because the top layer of the soil, existing of peat, was taken away since it could be used as a cheap means of heating. Since large quantities of the material were involved it was transported mainly by water. Alongside the canals also roads were made.
