Holland - Haarlem - Spaarne
A festive day in Haarlem on Sunday September 9, 2007

The river Spaarne is almost covered with all kinds of boats. During some days they stay there, and a few of them can even be visited.
Furthermore on the right side of the Spaarne you will find all kinds of goods for sale, whereas on the left side of the Spaarne second hand books can be bought.

My harvest consists of three books: two by Nobel prize winner Thomas Mann: 'Charlotte in Weimar' and 'The magic mountain' and a very nice book about the region I live in: Kennemerland with fine engravements of old estates, of which some still exist.

The weather was not great but started to brighten up finally contributing to the festive atmosphere.

Great picture Anna...I spend some time in that city when I was little...My Oma lived in Heemstede and we used to go on the bus..

Thanks for your reaction dear Petra. I am pleased that you have such good childhood memories of Haarlem. My daughter and her husband married in Heemstede, the very nice place where your grandmother used to live.

Dear Tavascarow: normally it is not so busy. These were special days upon which many ships go to Haarlem and can be seen and admired.
In every day life the Spaarne looks more like this:
