Bob Piwarzyk has lived in the Santa Cruz Mountains for more than 30 years. Last week the big wildfire was just over the hill, but the crews stopped the blaze. He said it's the most scared he has ever been.

Amen to that! The season is young yet, but perhaps things will go OK from here on out. The fire started only 1.4 miles from my Bonny Doon house, too close for any kind of comfort.

Terrible fire season for us up in Redding. And the Telegraph fire in Mariposa almost took my inlaws home. Thank god for our firefighters! What a year they've had!
