The 1991 Oakland Hills fire destroyed thousands of houses in the most expensive parts of the city. Today, 15 years later, there are still signs of the trauma amid the gleaming replacement homes and manicured properties. The Battino place on Acacia Street lies untouched between its posh neighbors, a lot full of weeds and rubble.
