Mussel Rock is where the San Andreas fault leaves the mainland. The notch on the horizon, between Point Reyes and the Marin County hills, is where it joins the mainland again. In between is where the great 1906 earthquake began.

I took a geological day trip today, and the next three photos are from it too.
