Alden's Fotothing

The wide boulevard is where Interstate 880 used to run. It was a huge double-decker concrete structure that pancaked in the 1989 earthquake, killing dozens of people. Fifteen years later it is Mandela Parkway, with brand-new buildings at this end making up Mandela Gateway. Photo taken from the West Oakland BART station yesterday.
