Vireya rhododendron, Oakland Garden Center, today. Vireyas are a large group of rhododendron species that inhabit Southeast Asia, Australia and New Guinea. In Oakland they're grown in a lath house to guard against frost. About 60 species are grown here, which may be the largest outdoor collection of vireyas in the continental United States. They bloom year round. I had no idea this place existed before today.
