Alden's Fotothing

Dr. Henry D. Cogswell erected a huge monument at Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland, a great granite plinth with a purple glass star at its peak, set in a granite square with four corner sculptures. He was very serious about broadcasting his convictions to posterity.

He endowed a technical college in San Francisco in 1887 that still exists as Cogswell College, in Sunnyvale. A sister institution in Washington state, Henry Cogswell College, closed just last month: http://www.henrycogswell.edu/
