I had occasion to visit the construction site of the Devils Slide Bypass tunnel, on state route 1 south of Pacifica. The tunnel entrance will be reached by a pair of curved concrete bridges. This is the west bridge, for southbound traffic. The ground below is a working ranch and habitat for various creatures, and the construction was required not to degrade it. So the bridges are cast in place, effectively growing across the valley.

I've seen the huge machines at work they use to "grow" a bridge like this. Casting the concrete high up there, and when its dry enough, moving the machine on it to cast the next part. quite a sight (a couple years ago they used to grow a very very long railroad track in the netherlands high above the roads, footballfields, rivers, etc...at the time it was the biggest of these machines in the world)
