The Oakland Auditorium was built in 1915 at the mouth of Lake Merritt. Later it became the Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center. Today it is vacant, but it may become the home of the city library. The building has these seven massive bays on the east face overlooking the lake, with friezes designed by Alexander Sterling Calder, father of the famous sculptor. I'll walk the length of this side and show you all seven. | |
