First of three. There's this boulder of chert breccia in a burned lot in Broadway Terrace, empty since the October 1991 fire. It has traces of brickwork and concrete around it, showing that the owners of the lot cherished this piece of bedrock--a knocker is what local geologists call outcrops like it--and if I lived there I would have too.
