The 1991 Oakland Hills fire destroyed thousands of houses in the most expensive parts of the city. Today, 15 years later, there are still signs of the trauma amid the gleaming replacement homes and manicured properties. The Battino place on Acacia Street lies untouched between its posh neighbors, a lot full of weeds and rubble.

really nice, alden. i remember being up there after the fire - the geological firm i worked with did some work up there. i miss the old homes.

The fire stopped 3 blocks from Gail's mom's house! Her brother lot some friends in the fire. ;>(

Andrew (alden) and I lived nearby at the time, and we were packed and ready to flee if necessary. That was a long and awful day, one of the worst in my life.
