#2: The old spillway of Chabot Reservoir ends in this sturdy concrete structure. The water runs right into San Leandro Creek, which is fitting because that's the creek that was dammed to form the reservoir. The spillway was completed in 1892 but is still strong and tight. Skilled Chinese laborers made it, four of whom died and are memorialized with a bronze plaque put up in 1997. | |
