sandiego airplane

San Diego is an aeronautical town. Charles Lindbergh had the "Spirit of St. Louis" built by Ryan Air here. The Lindbergh Airport is right north of downtown, and incoming planes appear at heartstopping distances as they come down near Little Italy. The San Diego Aeronautical Museum, in Balboa Park, is near the landing approach too. It's packed with old planes and a few spaceships, plus two moon rocks. Don't miss it.

That day the conditions were such that the planes made vapor trails behind their wingtips, spinning in furious vortices like little stringy tornadoes. I couldn't photograph them, but they were awesome to see.
