The legendary “ bulgaris gourd “ known as “ mate” in Peru, is the basis of the fine art of the : mate burilado.
These gourds stand out for the vitality of the thick but steady lines, which etch out scenes of everyday life in the Andes.
Another variation is that of miniature drawings, which can only be made out with a magnifying glass. The technique involves etching fine lines into the gourd with a scalpel called a buril, creating a series of drawings that generally represent active scenes of farming life.
Today, the central Andean department of Junin and specifically the districts of Cochas Chico and Cochas Grande are the main production centers of mates burilados.

juego de seducción, donde el varón,
cautivado y retado al mismo tiempo por
la belleza e insinuación de la mujer se
lanza al ruedo a gozar de la cercanía de
quien ha osado herir su orgullo varonil,
y por supuesto que a conquistarla entre
filigranas amorosas que acercan y alejan
a la pareja durante el acoso musical y
que finalmente concluye cuando la mujer
ha caído provocadoramente en su propia trampa.
Marinera Norteña
This Marinera had its origins in the Tondero of Piura. It acquired characteristics of the Marinera Limeña, and soon enough it became a new variation of the dance. The dance itself tends to be quick-paced and though not as "elegant" as the Limeña, it can also be very stylish. Even though the dance originated in the Northern coasts of the country, it has become quite popular throughout Peru.
It is thanks to that popularity that the Marinera is considered the National Dance of Peru, along with the Peruvian Waltz.
