Holland - Beverwijk,Wijk a Zee,Castricum - annaschnitfink's album
Beverwijk, Wijk aan Zee and Castricum are all situated north of the North Sea Channel. Until 1876 when the North Sea Channel was dug, these places and the rest of Northern Holland could easily be reached. The North Sea Channel plunged the majorities of the villages in this part of Northern Holland into deep isolation. Now that two tunnels were dug underneath the channel this isolation is no more. A lot of the characteristic old buildings, however, survived until today because of their being so isolated for such a long time!
I also add to this album photos from Uitgeest, Egmond aan Zee, Egmond Binnen, Limmen and Heiloo. They are all within short distances of each other.
