The Morongo Valley fire tops the ridge, inching closer to Big Bear Lake at twilight, 12 July 2006. Visible in right center is the tower of the Morongo Casino, and in the right foreground a memorial of flowers commemorating loss of loved ones at this precipitous point, about 3500 feet up Highway 243, leading from Banning to Idyllwild.
