Awakening to a yellow-brown sky, I drove to Hemet's Simpson Park and got these photos...smoke from the 4000-acre fire by Poppett's Flats along Hwy 243 in the San Gorgonio range. Ash drifted down on Hemet as the smoke cloud drifts to the southwest. This is a tragic fire; 3 firefighters have been killed, 2 critically injured, several homes destroyed...update: 5 firefighters from engine 57 (Idyllwild) killed.
