A day out to discover Gillespies Beach near Fox Glacier township on the West Coast of New Zealand. The beach is covered in stones varying in size, getting smaller as you get closer to the waterline. There is driftwood lying twisted and tortured all over the beach. It would be fascinating on a stormy day when the sea was rough and washing up more wood and trees.
The lengths some people go to to take a photograph.

Hi John. He got some good shots of the water coming in. I nearly got very wet with these ones as I did the wrong thing and turned my back on the sea. A big wave sent a lot of froth up the beach so while I had to run, I never got too wet.

First rule, when on rocks, "never turn your back on the sea".

Funny thing was I was not on rocks. I was a long way up the beach and thought I was far enough up to be away from the high water line.
